None of the mothers in the study had history of psychiatric disorder or personal or family history of thyroid disease. WebResults. A total of 8806 patients had 11,618 thyroid ultrasound exams during the study period; 105 cancers were diagnosed 1 day to 6 years after the ultrasound imaging. The incidence of thyroid cancer was 0.9 per 100 ultrasound exams. Thyroid nodules were found in 97% of patients with cancer and in 56% of controls.
